Star Class is composed of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We work in a beautiful new-build log cabin over-looking the playing field and also have our own self-contained outside area for learning and playing.
Our new topic this half term is ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’. We will be thinking about ourselves, our families and where we live. This will also lead into our mini-topic of ‘Memory Box’ when Star Class will be learning about what life was like when their parents and grandparents were little.
Miss Harris has developed her own creative curriculum to suit the varying needs of the age range of the class.
This year Miss Harris is introducing Read Write Inc. to deliver phonics. It has been selected as it is a systematic and methodical way of teaching synthetic phonics rapidly. Further information may be found here: https://ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/parents/
Literacy Units of Work have been planned using a combination of ‘Talk for Writing’, ‘Hamilton Trust’ and ‘The Write Stuff’. Reception will join in with certain parts of these units where appropriate and at other times will be developing early speaking, listening and enjoyment literacy skills which will often be linked to the main themes, i.e. family or fairy tales.
‘White Rose’ Maths has been used as a starting point for planning maths units of work, however to engage younger learners activities are often developed to be more active, creative, linked to the topic, or linked to the children’s own interests.
Miss Harris has developed a 3 year rolling creative curriculum. A variety of engaging topics have been selected and developed. Pupils will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and experiences with age-related objectives being planned for every year.
